Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III__TS-E90mmf/2.8+2x Extender__1.5 sec at f / 2.8__ISO 100
Yesterday afternoon, and early this morning, I took about 550 frames of my purple plum trees which are in bloom. I know about quality over quantity, but this is what happens when I get excited making Impressions of Light images!
I have barely started editing, but found this one to share. Below you can see the setup I used for both the ice image, and this blur! Ironic somehow… For the blossom images, I added the Singh Ray Vari-ND filter, which I’ve used often for my Impressions images. It allowed me to use the widest aperture for shallow depth of field, but still use a slow shutter speed.

I just wanted to say I heard you on the 7 photography questions podcast and I came to check out your site and have been really impressed by your impressionist photos. I tried the technique myself and got some really cool photos, but they don’t really compare to the stuff that you make. You can see them on my flickr page.
As for this photo I am curious as to why you wanted to use such a wide aperture?

Pero si es que es de cajón: con una página como esta orientada a temas tecnológicos, me juego mis dos céntimos a que cerca del 75% de tus visitantes usa Firefox y muchos de ellos con AdBlock.Prueba con el , que sólo muestra los anuncios a los visitantes esporádicos que llegan vÃa buscador. Esos son precisamente los que tienden a pulsar couptlsivamenme en los banners. Prueba un par de meses y me cuentas.– Wayfarer

Stacey, This was a single exposure, moving the camera during exposure. No tripod. I think it was a bit windy…

Hey Bill, another nice plum blossom image. Is this image purely a swipe and not a multiple exposure? Since the exposure was 1.5sec did you just move a bit after the shutter was open? Tripod?
